Versatility is the Key to Outdoor Carpet

It is a fact that outdoor carpeting is really designed to be used both indoors and out. With the modern synthetic fibers becoming so well designed as to be virtually indistinguishable from traditional cotton cloth rugs and carpet, the extreme durability of outdoor carpeting is being increasingly taken advantage of inside the home.

Since the primary role of carpet is to capture dirt that has been brought into the house, indoor outdoor carpet has the advantage of being much less subject to stains and is much easier to clean than traditional cloth carpet. In humid climates, outdoor carpets and rugs increase their usefulness by also being very mold resistant. On top of these advantages, synthetic outdoor carpets also pass all fire safety requirements in the United States.

On top of standard room sizes, synthetic outdoor carpeting can be obtained in custom sizes. Some designers prefer the use of outdoor carpet tiles or outdoor area rugs to add a harmonizing contrast to your outdoor living space. The properties of these outdoor rugs makes their use around cooking areas, swimming pools, and children’s playing areas extremely desirous. They provide warmth in the winter, cooler walking surfaces in the summer as well as softer, safer areas for children to play.

Outdoor carpeting can be color coordinated to the area you place it in. A blue outdoor carpet may make a fine accent to your poolside fun and a green outdoor carpet can easily emulate grass on the patio or in your gazebo. A warm yellow or orange may give your sunroom that extra warming glow. The home decorating ideas are as plentiful as the multitude of colors, weaves and patterns that indoor outdoor carpet is created in.

The only drawback to using outdoor carpet throughout your house is that you will want to make sure you are happy with the decor. It is durable and wear resistant enough that you will be able to have it around for years to come before you might need to ever replace it with a new carpet.

But then, there are those who prefer all natural products and demonstrate their love for the Earth by avoiding synthetics. You can find many excellent outdoor carpets made from natural materials. Jute, also known as “hessian,” sisal, and bamboo are the most common natural fibers used in outdoor rugs. While bamboo is naturally anti-microbial and will resist mold, the natural option does not last nearly as long as the synthetics so you will be replacing your outdoor floor coverings every year or so.
